Despite my multiple pleas two years ago to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, she would not even consider acknowledging Boko Haram’s religious ideology and listing them as a foreign terrorist organization. Consequently, Boko Haram is stronger today than ever before. This Islamist group continues their rampage of terror because the Administration refused to look at the facts as they were. After the nearly 300 Nigerian girls were tragically kidnapped by Boko Haram—a radical Islamist group—I introduced an amendment to the National Defense Reauthorization Act that called for a new, long-term approach to counter the vicious terror attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram. Earlier this week, Boko Haram released a video stating they are waging “war against Western education, democracy, and constitution…Christians and Christianity.” In 2013, over 1,000 Christians were murdered at the hands of Boko Haram. In 2012, nearly 700 Christians perished because of Boko Haram attacks on Christian churches and homes.
