Despite public pressure, including a State Board resolution, Lundeen said that Gov. Hickenlooper will not sign a letter of withdrawal. As governor, Bob Beauprez promised participants in Wednesday’s call that he would sign the letter to withdraw Colorado from the testing consortiumThe test not only enforces the Common Core State Standards, but also helps to fulfill accountability requirements in the controversial SB10-191. Teacher performance is predicated partially on student success on this test. Beauprez said that under this requirement, “testing goes from being the tool to being the objective.” While he agrees with accountability, he feels that a lighter touch is needed. Under recent reforms, teacher evaluations have gone from a four page document to a 28 page document. Instead, Beauprez would like to bring marketplace principles into the teacher evaluation process. Beauprez said that he wants to “get back to trusting teachers and parents.”
