Despite sensationalistic and poorly-sourced news stories you might see or read this week, NCIS and the Navy are NOT aware of any credible, specific threat against members of the Navy community in San Diego or across the United States by radicalized supporters of ISIL (ISIS). According to the Department of Homeland Security, the specific threat referred to in these news stories has been traced to a single social media user who does not represent ISIL. Service members and their families are encouraged to always use best personal security practices, including the review of social media privacy settings and the avoidance of revealing too much personal information publicly.
