Despite the opposition of parents, community organizations, elected officials and Neighborhood Advisory Council Members, the Board of Education will vote on DOZENS of new charter school proposals this week. They have faced growing community push back, many critical headlines and political pressure against these expansions in the wake of school closings and budget cuts. We do believe we can defeat some of these- if we keep on pushing! 1. TOMORROW, Monday January 20th, 2:00pm - Press Conf against new Noble School Communities United for Quality Education will be holding a press conference in front of the site of the proposed Noble High School, 5357 W Grand Avenue (the old Rubenstein Lumber, across from Prosser HS). They will be speaking out about how Noble is starting construction before CPS has even approved their charter and highlighting the many charters up for consideration that dont even meet CPSs own guidelines. Parents and students from Prosser and other nearby schools will be there and they are hoping some teachers can join them as well! 2. Tuesday, January 21st - Vigil and Overnight Protest at Board of Ed Join a night-time vigil to protest policies that starve neighborhood schools and reward politicians’ friends. There will be an evening protest and press conference followed by an overnight vigil outside the Board of Ed leading up to their meeting and votes the next day. Kickoff 4:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m. Overnight Vigil 7:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m. Meet at Chicago Temple (77 W. Washington) We will march over to CPS Headquarters from the Chicago Temple site.
