Despite their traditional impatience and contempt for human rights - TopicsExpress

Despite their traditional impatience and contempt for human rights and democratic rule in general, the thugs running Egypt are now trying to put on a show, for an international audience, of a disciplined and modern police force exercising maximum restraint and self control in dispersing crowds of demonstrators. Ironically, these demonstrators are the very folks on whose backs they have climbed their way up to power only a few months ago. How much sense do those who supported the military coup this passed July have? As much sense as those members of a travelling party who are sailing across the open ocean and who propose that the ship be divided into two camps, with those they cannot get along with occupying one half of it, while they and their like minded companions settle on the other. Acting on the advice of the most intransigent and militant of their numbers, who persuade them that their differences are utterly irreconcilable, they start plotting to have a hole put in the other side of the ship in order to drown their enemies and keep the entire vessel to themselves. Flushed with the success of their scheme and while they are congratulating themselves on this accomplishment, the entire wreckage is slowly making its descent into the fathomless dark abyss with everyone and everything on board.
