Destination Newry… the morning programme… “Good Morning Newry and Mourne & the World”…the weekend in prospect…. Relaxation beckons….perhaps….. No relaxation from the effort world-wide now almost…..to tackle the ebola virus….4000 US troops to west Africa to help….the National Guard called out to follow…. But what are they to do…..against the invisible enemy…..worst case scenario they pick up the virus and take it home with them to America….the courage of all who fight ebola beyond words….what wonderful people are these nurses, doctors and health workers….dedicated….amazing…. On the programme today….the goodness of the people of Glinsk on the Galway Roscommon border…their neighbour’s child Sean Parker….eighty when he died in a council home in Kent after a lifetime of poverty in London…they brought him home to Glinsk and laid him to rest alongside his mother, Annie, who died in 1945….the final sentence in the final chapter of the story of the Parker family of Glinsk who are no more…. Antiques…why do we hanker after the excellences of bygone times…the bric-a-brac of yesteryear….. ….furniture and now reproductions… I have the story of the fifth generation Newry trading family family….how they came as market traders from Belfast….left their goods…safe…in the open in the market under a canvas cover…between Thursday and Saturday, the trading days…Raymond McCabe on his world of Antiques and world travel in search of the antiques of the modern era… Europe our home…Bernard Conlon a repatriated (Brussels to Ireland) European journalist…once more on the programme making our place in Europe a reality and relevant in our modern lives….Bernard on Europe…the story this morning….
