Two of the brothers are temporary sharing a household, while the other brother erects his own home . Tony has been trying to complete his home, and hope to move in next week. Sapina was cooking breakfast at 4 am, and this was going to be a very busy day. This was the day she did her laundry, and it took most of the morning, Now that she has a new washing machine, it cuts the time in half, rather than washing them by hand.. this was good because she was 5 months pregnant, and she tires out more easily. She made a pan of buttermilk biscuits. her sister in law Camile, had always sent her fresh butter , and sometimes buttermilk too. They had a lot of dairy cows, and they were kind enough to share. Breakfast was going to be simple, because the men wanted to leave early. menu: Buttermilk biscuits, Fried smoked ham Fresh churned butter Blackberry jelly The biscuits were cut open and buttered and added ham the jelly. It was quicker for the men, to eat and be on their way to their brother phillips. The were going meet there to make plans to go to Melville to pick up all of the farm equipment. When they met at phillip,s house, their father Leonardo suggested that, phillip should drive them quickly to Melville in his farm truck, then hurry back, to help milk the cows. They were bringing some fuel for both the tractors. Tony and Joe was going to take a chance on the tractors running well enough for the trip by way of the levee road. But if they were not in Fordoche in three hours, then Phillip, would travel the levee road to see if they broke down. When they arrived in Melville, at the farm of Mr Maurice David, the old cajun was sitting on his porch. He had a deer horn, whittling, and carving away. Tony asked the old cajun what he was making but he did not speak english. Right next to him was an old wooden bench. Mr Maurice waved his hand as if he was saying come here. When the two men climbed on the porch they could see that there were several home made knives. The old man used deer horns for the handles, then he would polish the blades. Joe asked him to please sell him a knife. The old man had much given talents. These were the most beautiful knives that the farmers ever seen. Joe took out a ten dollar bill, and offered it to Mr Maurice. But he said no no, and refused the money. Then he disappeared. The tractors were fueled and started running, and they were in perfect mechanical condition. All of a sudden the old cajun came out to the tractor shed, and he was carrying 2 small boxes.Mr maurice handed each brother a box. when Joe and tony opened them they was surprised to see a beautiful hand carved knife with a 7 inch blade. The old man kept saying fish, fish.. apparentley it was for filleting fish. The men offered to pay for the knives, and the old man kept saying no, no free free.. The two farmers were amazed by this man,s talents. Tony told him, that when they harvest their crops, they were going to bring him some vegetables, Mr maurice kept saying, potot , potot, [means potato in french. ] ok said Joe we bring you potatoes, when we harvest them. The old man ,s face just light up, because they understood him. This was the beginning of a new friendship, they thanked the old man for his generosity. But most of all they admired his intelligence. Joe, climbed on the old Model T Ford tractor, it was built in 1915 the motor ran smooth. Then Tony was going to drive the 1918 model, and it was really a great looking tractor. As they pulled out into the dusty road, the old cajun, just stood there and watched them, waving his hand. The farmers knew that the old man, would feel lost without the tractors.. They were feeling sorry for him, they both decided to come to visit him more often. They were finally was on top of the levee road, and the loose gravel, made the tractors shimmy and slide. They had to decrease in speed, when they crossed several cattle guards. Cows arev curious at times and they were in the middle of the road, and it slowed them down a cow came to a dead stop, and just stared at them, She was saying mooooooooo Joe was aggrivated, but Tony just laughed out loud. When they came down from the levee road , traveling towards fordoche. there was no traffic. they were only about 20 minutes from the farm. they had to take the tractors straight to Joe,s house. then later both of them would go to phillip,s and pick up the farm truck. Tony was going to drive Mario the mule and wagon , then Joe could drive his truck home. When the men arrived their wives were sitting on the porch in a rocker. Bull and Maggie was playing in the grass with their toys. When the boy heard the tractors, he was shouting to his mama , look mommy! dad and uncle Tony are on tractors. .Sapina replied: yes Bull i see their new toys.. ha ha.. Then the boy ran to his father and hugged him, the small boy said: daddy i didnt know that you like toys too. ha ha Nancy kissed her husband and said that the tractors were really in good shape.
