Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh organised an Evening of Poetry Recitation by Mr. Jayanto Chattopadhyay, Ms. Dahlia Ahmed and Mr. Samiul Islam Poluck at 6:30 PM on September 27, 2014, at the IGCC, House No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1. Mr. Jayanto Chattopadhyay is a well-known recitation artist, elocutionist and actor of Bangladesh. Born in 1946 at Satkhira, he studied at the Vidyasagar and Ananda Mohan Colleges of Kolkata University, and earned many awards there for recitation, singing and acting. He has immensely contributed to establish and popularise recitation as a separate medium of performing arts in Bangladesh. He has performed as a professional recitation artiste in Mumbai, New York, Detroit, Florida, Paris and many other cities around the world. Mr. Chattopadhyay is also a versatile actor who has acted in 42 feature films and 530 telefilms and won many awards. A leading recitation artiste and elocutionist of Bangladesh, Ms. Dahlia Ahmed was born in 1961 at Mymensingh to an esteemed Muktijoddha family. A brilliant student, she grew up in the strict disciplinary ambience of Bharateswari Homes - a renowned residential school for girls in Bangladesh reputed for excellence in academic & cultural activities. She later graduated in English from Dhaka University. Ms. Ahmed has an ardent passion for languages, particularly phonetics and pronunciation. She has participated in several national programmes held on the occasions of International Mother Language Day, Independence Day and Victory Day. She has also given background voice to many stage shows, dance dramas, documentaries and live commentaries. Ms. Ahmed has recited poetry and dance dramas all over Bangladesh and abroad in cities such as New York, London and Paris. She is a recipient of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Award for recitation in 2010. Born in 1990 at Faridpur, Mr. Samiul Islam Poluck started to learn recitation at a very tender age. He has trained under Mahidul Islam, Shikkhoyotri Paroma Banerjee (Shantiniketan), Satyanath Mukhopadhyay, Barun Chand etc. He was a Gold Medalist in “Jatiyo Shikkha Shoptaho” in 2001. He was invited by Assam National Language Day for his participation in “Unishe May Vasha Dibas” on their golden jubilee in 2011 and Tagore’s English Gitanjali to commemorate the centenary year of receiving Noble prize named “Karuna Dharay Esho” in 2013 by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Kolkata. He has worked with Bangladesh Betar and Television. He did a Four years’ diploma course in recitation from Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Faridpur from 1998-2002. He has traveled abroad for performances and also performs in Bangladeshi and Indian Channels. *****
