Detectives Investigating Wallet/ID Theft Caught on Surveillance Video On Monday, January 12, 2014, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division began an investigation into a report of a theft that occurred at Walmart in Bayou Vista earlier that day. The 75 year old female victim stated she discovered her wallet was missing as she was checking out at the store. The detective assigned to the case obtained video surveillance footage of a female suspect reaching into the victim’s shopping basket, taking her wallet, and leaving the store. Although the victim took immediate action to cancel the credit and debit cards she kept in her wallet, one of the cards had already been used at two stores in Bayou Vista and Morgan City to purchase over $1,000 in Visa gift cards. The same female suspect can be seen on surveillance video at those locations taking the stolen cards from the stolen wallet to make the purchases. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the identity of the female suspect. Investigators are also looking for the driver or owner of the vehicle that is seen dropping off the suspect at Walmart. Detectives believe the occupant(s) of the vehicle may have information about the identity of the suspect. The crime took place Monday afternoon at approximately 1:30 pm. Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity or information on the vehicle may contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960.
