Detectives are hunting two offenders who held a cloth over an elderly mans mouth during a robbery at his Oldbury home last Monday night (18 November). They forced their way into the 88-year-olds hallway after he opened the door to the pair on Winwood Road at around 7pm. After knocking him to the ground, one of the robbers held a cloth over his face, whilst demanding to know where the money is − as the other man searched all the rooms of the house. The thieves escaped with a quantity of cash, leaving the victim with a cut lip and a bruise in the shape of a handprint. Investigating officer Detective Constable Mitch Buchanan, from Force CID in Dudley, said: I am very keen to hear from anyone who may be able to provide us with more information about these individuals, who we know were young, white men. Perhaps you were in the area at around 7pm on Monday night and saw two people acting suspiciously in or around this area? If so I want you to get in touch. Were already following up a number of lines of enquiry and although crimes of this nature are extraordinarily rare these are clearly dangerous individuals and its important we get them behind bars as quickly as possible. These men targeted a vulnerable elderly victim; if you know who is responsible please do the right thing and name them. Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team have been visiting residents in the area following the robbery. Inspector Lee Bartram, who covers the Langley area, said: This type of incident is thankfully very rare, but I understand the impact that this will have on the local community. I would encourage residents to use door chains or other security measures when answering to unexpected callers, particularly during the hours of darkness. We constantly distribute crime prevention advice and anyone wishing to discuss specific concerns can contact their local neighbourhood team directly on 101. Witnesses or anyone with information should contact DC Buchanan at the Dudley Force CID Acquisitive Crime Team on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
