Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Manchester are appealing for the public’s help to piece together the moments before he was killed. At about 3.25am on Sunday 4 January 2015, police were called to Charles Street by the ambulance service to reports a man had been stabbed. When officers attended they found dozens of people gathered at the scene and Clarence Edwards, aged 26 on the floor with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later. Early enquiries have established that Clarence was found with stab wounds following a disturbance between a group of people outside R Base nightclub on Charles Street. A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody. Detective Superintendent Joanne Rawlinson, said, “We are still in the early stages of our investigating and we are working to build up a picture of what happened in the hours leading up to Clarence’s death. “We know there will be speculation and rumour in the community about what happened and why, and it is important that people do not jump to conclusions or second guess what has gone on. “All we know for certain is that this young man has been killed and his family have been left devastated by the events of this morning. “If you know anything about the reasons why Clarence was attacked or the circumstances leading up to it, you have an absolute responsibility to him, his family and to the justice process, to do the right thing and let us know. “We know there had been a party at R Base nightclub on Charles Street on Saturday night which was attended by a large number of people who may have vital information which could assist us with our investigation. “I would urge any witnesses to this tragic incident to come forward and speak to us. Although a man has been arrested in connection with the murder, the investigation is still in its infancy and we need to hear from anyone who was around the Charles Street area in the early hours of this morning. “We have a dedicated syndicate of experienced detectives investigating this matter and will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice. There is an increased police presence in the area as we continue our investigation and to reassure local residents so if you have any concerns or information you wish to provide please come and speak to us. “I also want to thank the residents and businesses in and around the Charles Street area for being patient and assisting us with our investigation.” Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police on 0161 856 9708 or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
