Detroit EMS technicians are dedicated to the service of the City of Detroit. We would like to make you aware of a meritorious event, occurring on an evening in December 2014. Medic 23 was dispatched to Gratiot and Harper, car vs. pedestrian. The call was updated to CPR in progress. The crew arrived to find CPR in progress by a uniformed DEMS medic. The medic was on his way in to work the midnight shift. He came across the victim lying in the middle of Gratiot and initiated care. He worked the patient with the crew, continuing CPR from the scene to the emergency department. With no regard for his personal safety, the medic initiated field care by himself in a high crime area. Without hesitation, he left his personal car and the contents on the street to maintain patient care from the accident scene to the hospital. He helped clean up the unit and prep for the next run, all while on his own time. The actions and conduct of this medic is the epitome of what DEMS personnel are and what those who fall short, should should strive for.
