Phase I is now open and we are excited to start gathering SUBMISSIONS for the 2015 Detroit Music Awards, to be held on April 10th at the Fillmore! In our ongoing mission to refine and improve the Detroit Music Awards each year, the Detroit Music Awards Foundation has made the following changes effective for the 2015 DMAs: After winning the same category for two consecutive years, an act will be exempt for the following year but will be eligible again the year after that. What was formerly the Acoustic/Folk category will now be known as Americana. The Rock field will now include the categories Rock/Pop, Heavy Rock and Alt/Punk/Indie. The Blues/R&B field will now be known solely as Blues. The Urban/Funk field will now be known solely as Urban but will still include Funk, Soul and other sub-genres related to that heading. A separate Rap field has been added, with the categories of Outstanding Rap Recording, Outstanding Rap MC, Outstanding Rap Composer and Outstanding Rap Producer. The World/Reggae/Ska field will now be known solely as World Music, but will include Reggae, Ska and other sub-genres related to that heading. ANYONE can enter the names of all eligible recordings, artists, bands, etc. to be considered as possible choices within a field during Phase I. However, only registered DMA voters will be able to cast votes in Phases II and III. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR SUBMISSIONS ARE IN BY JANUARY 25, 2015 - OR THEY WILL NOT BE LISTED ON THE PHASE II BALLOT!!! Registration is not required to add names and recordings during the Submission Phase; you are allowed to enter as many names and recordings as you like at any time during the Submission Phase. PLEASE DO NOT DUPLICATE ANY ENTRIES!!! Submitting names or recordings during this phase does NOT nominate the Artist, Group or Recording for the Final Ballot. Names eligible to be considered as choices must have a connection, or perform a body of work, primarily in the Detroit metro area, which, for our purposes, stretches as far north as Flint, as far west as metropolitan Ann Arbor, as far south as the Ohio border, and as far east as the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair. Recordings eligible for the 2014 Detroit Music Awards to be considered as choices must have been released between December 1, 2013 and November 30, 2014. Recordings need to be available for purchase to the public via gigs, internet sales and record stores between those dates.
