Detroit Telanganaites welcome T-announcement Wixom, MI (USA), Jul 31 2013: The news about starting the process of Separate Telangana State by the UPA Government brought hordes of Telanganaites together here on Tuesday evening. Warm greetings, hugs and back slaps marked the celebrations organized by the Detroit chapter of Telangana Development Forum. It was a short notice yet passionate Telanganaites turned out in great numbers and with great enthusiasm after the day’s work and stayed put until the stroke of midnight. What more, there were good-spirited friends from Andhra and Rayalaseema, who joined the celebrations. Speaker after speaker remembered and spoke about the sacrifices that were made towards this. It would have been a great disservice if tributes were not paid to the martyrs of Telangana agitation and to around 1000 youth who simply gave up their lives for demerger of the state. The speakers also fondly remembered Telangana ideologue, Prof Jaishanker and recalled his efforts in shaping up Telangana agitation which was carried forward by the TRS. They wished he was alive to see his vision of Telangana come true. Even as there were apprehensions that a there wouldn’t be a repeat of December 23 2009 where the UPA government went back on separate Telangana after it was originally announced on December 9, 2009. “We have to be wary of the Congress. All political parties, particularly TRS and Telangana wings of TDP and Congress have to be the watchdogs and see through the presentation of a no strings attached- Telangana Bill,” said Dr Hari Dandapantulu, an avid Telangana activist in Michigan. “What if the Bill loses in the Parliament? We know the hard-core politics the Seema-Andhra politicians play and their lobbying. Why are they not prepared to see the reality after this issue coming so far?” said Venkat Aekka. However, Member of Parliament from Telangana region, Palwai Goverdhan Reddy allayed the fears. “While I agree that your fears are not totally unfounded, I am pretty sure that the Congress Party will not go back on this like it did before,” said the veteran leader, who is a staunch advocate for separate Telangana. He however said the T-Congress is alert to the situation in the State and will keep up the pressure on the high-command. “We are in constant touch with Soniaji and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on this issue. The bill will be introduced in the Parliament as promised and we will get that voted without any hassle. All we need is a simple majority and BJP is committed to support too,” said the septuagenarian leader known for his proximity to the UPA chairperson. There were ideas galore for Telangana post its formation that were welcomed with great applause by the audience. Dr Harshavardhan, who has been a philanthropist in his native village of Mahabubnagar, mooted the idea that NRIs should play a major role in the re-construction and development of Telangana. “Each village in Telangana has at least a couple of NRIs to say the least. Let’s adopt our own villages and districts and spur development activities in the spheres of education, sanitation, water supply, so on and so forth to achieve a dream Telangana that is vibrant and vivacious,” exhorted Dr Harsha, a cardiologist by profession. On this occasion, Praveen Kesireddy and Praveen Jonnalagadda of of TDF Detroit Chapter acknowledged Ashok Perumandla for his contribution in bringing Telanganaites together in Michigan and for driving the Telangana political and cultural movement in Michigan, and Detroit in particular.
