Deuteronomy 4:29 (NIV) But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29 (MSG) But even there, if you seek God, your God, you’ll be able to find him if you’re serious, looking for him with your whole heart and soul. *************************************** Even as Christians there are times that we are not as close to God as we should be. There is always room for growth; there is always room for more intimacy with Him. God desires that we seek after Him. This passage was given as a promise to the Israelites for those times when they had wandered away from Him. For God knew and even informed them that a time would come when they would do evil in His eyes and wander away from Him. God knew this even before it happened and gave them fair warning. Yet still, even when warned, they did exactly what God had warned them against and had to pay the consequences. God told them though, when this happened He would always be available to forgive and restore a relationship with them. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. -Deuteronomy 7:9 (NIV) What a marvelous promise! The key to this promise is that one must seek God. If you seek Him, you will find Him. King David informed the people to, Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. in 1 Chronicles 22:19. The writer of Hebrews tells us, And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. -Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) We are even informed of how we should seek Him; with all of our heart and soul. When David sought the Lord it often involved his whole being, You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. Psalms 63:1 (NIV) Even Jesus Himself informed us of how we should love God with everything within us, “The most important one (command),” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ -Mark 12:29-30 (NIV) As I stated earlier, even if we have not wandered from God, there is always room for growth. There is always the opportunity to get closer to Him. Even if we have a close relationship with God, we can always become closer. Seek to know Him. Seek to be like Him. Seek Him with all that is within you and He will not fail you. He will allow you to encounter Him like never before. My Prayer: Lord God, forgive me if I have wandered from my relationship with you. Forgive me if I have not been attentive with our relationship. I desire to seek you and know you intimately. I want to encounter you in a new way. Help me never to lose the wonder of being in your presence and spending time with you. You are Wonderful, Amazing, Awesome, and Spectacular! I love you Lord!
