Deuteronomy 7:9-10 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. 10 But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him In my devotional post yesterday (Deuteronomy 8: 18), we were called to remember who we are and who God is. He is our Father Creator and the provider of everything that you have ever or will ever receive while living out your life here on earth. We are His creation, uniquely formed with the capacity to love as God loves, and more importantly, we are given the gift of free will to make choices in our lives. God made us in His image to be engaged in a love relationship with Him, just as we are with our own children and grandchildren. God is God, the great I am. He is the alpha and the omega. He always was, is now, and always will be. We need to accept that in faith even if we have trouble with the concept. He owes us nothing, but wants to give us everything. He is faithful to His promises and He will love us like a father..even when it comes to punishing us. If you have ever dealt with a child that you love, you know that they must be disciplined to keep them from making choices that will possibly destroy their lives. Sometimes, the child has such prideful contempt for authority that they turn on their parent and go off on their own. If they persist in their hate and contempt, they may wind up in jail, or possibly dead. God assure us that the patterns that we see in our human relationships are a reflection of His nature. If you love Him, you will listen to him and try to mature in obedience to His instruction. You will learn His ways, know right from wrong, and strive to please Him with all that you say and do. You will love and acknowledge Him in all you accomplish and point to Him with pride, just as you would a beloved parent or grandparent. He will love you and care for you and protect you- ALWAYS..NOT JUST IN THIS BRIEF LIFE. But those who hate Him...those who absolutely refuse to acknowledge Him and His ways; He WILL repay to their face, and He will not hesitate to do it, because He is a Holy and just and loving God. We call it tough love, sending away a child who is hell-bent on destruction, because they have exhausted every avenue to be re-directed by their parent. Scripture tell us here that God invented tough love too. He wants your love, and He wants to love you with an incomprehensible love in return. But if you hate Him,denying His authority over your very existence, and are hell-bent on destruction...then your all loving and just Father God is going to be quick to give you just what you have asked for on the day that you stand before Him face to face. I pray for all of you who read this, share this or discuss this with others. May the Holy Spirit rest on you and yours, that you might grow in love and understanding of Gods nature and the gift He has given to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. The time is short, the time to receive the gift of salvation is now. With love in His service.
