Development Associate The mission of the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. Founded in 1978, DWC was the first organization to exclusively serve mentally ill and elderly homeless women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. At the end of 2012, DWC expanded its housing and supportive services by opening a second home serving 48 additional women. Through both Residences, DWC provides permanent support housing to 119 women with special needs who were once without a home. Please visit DWCweb.org for more information. Position Summary The Development Associate is a full-time, non-exempt position that is an integral part of DWC’s Development Team, responsible for a variety of development and fundraising projects, including management of DWC’s donor database and donor recognition program. The Development Associate reports directly to the Development Manager and must be able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, and Board members. Essential Functions § Manage, maintain, and strengthen donor database, including processing checks and payments, maintaining accurate contact information, and tracking donor engagement. § Prepare and analyze donor reports; contribute to ongoing donor engagement strategy. § Donor acknowledgement: process and mail donor acknowledgement letters in a timely manner, conduct and coordinate thank-you calls. § Major donors: Assist in prospect research and donor cultivation. § Engage donors, volunteers, and prospects through DWC tours and external outreach. § Assist with additional activities in support of DWC’s Annual Fund Development Plan, including direct mail, external fundraising events, and other giving campaigns. § Provide staff support for DWC’s annual fundraising event. § Provide general administrative assistance to the Director of Development and Community Engagement and support other department efforts as needed. § Other duties as assigned. Necessary Skills & Qualifications § Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. § Detail-oriented, highly organized self-starter able to work independently, set and meet goals and deadlines. § Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiar with database management. Strong quantitative skills; experience analyzing data a plus. § Possession of excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate and explain complex funding and financial issues in a clear, non-technical manner. § Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment. § Demonstrated record as a successful team player, including the ability to develop and maintain a goal-oriented, positive attitude throughout the organization; must be able to interface equally well with the Board of Directors, executive staff, and the general DWC community. § Compassion and understanding of the Center’s unique approach to service provision. Schedule & Salary: This is a full-time, non-exempt position, scheduled Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm, with some flexibility to work evenings and weekends if needed.
