Devon Youth Wind Band Orchestra Taster Day The Director of Devon Youth Wind Orchestra, Steve Grant came into the College to present a Wind, Brass and Percussion Taster Workshop yesterday. He brought with him some youth members of the orchestra who worked closely with a group of our KS3 students as well as some visiting primary students in Years 5 and 6. Abilities ranged from beginners to advanced level and the aim was to encourage ensemble playing and allow the students to learn from each other. By the end of the session, the students were working really well in their groups and gave an enjoyable performance to parents and peers with everyone across the ability range playing an important part. Miss Davies who organised the event said, “I was impressed by how quickly the students could play together with confidence. They all supported each other when things went wrong. Not only have they learned a few new music pieces they also learned all about playing etiquette; how to sit, to start a piece and how to end a piece. It was an enjoyable day for everyone involved and we’d like to thank Steve and his orchestra for providing such a valuable session.”
