Devotion - January 15, 2015 There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18 What are you eagerly awaiting? Perhaps you were one who was eagerly awaiting Christmas … but now the bills have arrived. Or perhaps you were eagerly awaiting the arrival of 2015 … but now the new year perhaps doesn’t look so hot. Or perhaps you had eagerly awaited that promotion … which never came. Or perhaps you had eagerly awaited that promotion, it came, and now you wish you could have the old job back. So often the things we are eagerly awaiting disappoint us, either by not materializing or by not living up to expectations. But for the believer in Jesus, there is always a future hope which is worth eagerly awaiting! You have the amazing advantage that you know how your life will culminate: you will go to heaven. Every believer in Jesus will go to heaven. No, it’s not a “maybe” or a “might be;” it’s a “for sure,” because Jesus really died and Jesus really rose from the dead. Jesus did pay for your sins, Jesus did earn salvation for you. Because of that, you always have hope, you always have a future worth eagerly awaiting, a glorious future in the mansions of heaven. Knowing our eternal hope through Jesus helps us to keep a proper perspective on this world, with all its ups and downs. Whether the thing we’re eagerly awaiting thrills us or disappoints us, we’re still going to heaven. The future hope is certain, and it will not be cut off!
