Devotion ~ FIRST WEEK OF ADVENT – FRIDAY Psalm 102 Isaiah 3:1-4:1 (Bold - 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12) Luke 20:41-21:4 Hymn: “Take Time to Be Holy” #483 Take time to be holy, Speak oft with thy Lord; Abide with Him always And feed on His Word. Make friends with God’s children, Help those who are weak; Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek. https://youtube/watch?v=rFApbg-wcmE Thoughts: There has always been tension in the Christian faith between perfect obedience and perfect freedom, between law and grace, between living an outward lifestyle which is consistent with the Kingdom of God which Jesus told us about, and a lifestyle which shows the world that we are free in Christ! How should we live? “A little boy had difficulty pronouncing some words. The word worship was one of them. He said, ‘We go to church to wash up.’ We certainly do!” As we decorate our homes and transform them, are we also allowing the Lord to decorate our lives with deeds which please Him? Are we surrendering to the Lord so a powerful transformation will take place in our lives? The issues which Paul spoke of in the lesson for today are still issues in the church and in the world, because human nature has not changed. Prayer: God of love, who loves us enough to not be content to allow us to live as we always have, transform us and through us bring transformation to the world, that always and everywhere Jesus Christ might be praised and honored, worshiped and glorified. It is in His name and for His sake that we pray. Amen. Copyright © 2013 by the Rev. Denzel Nonhof of Sturgis, SD 57785
