Devotion ~ FOURTH WEEK OF ADVENT – MONDAY (Bolded ~ Psalm 122) Isaiah 11:10-16 Revelation 20:1-10 John 5:30-47 Hymn: “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” #191 It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth To touch their harps of gold: “Peace on the earth, good-will to men, From heav’n’s all gracious King!” The world in solemn, stillness lay To hear the angels sing. https://youtube/watch?v=XQjpDKKPDK4 Thoughts: The church was gloriously decorated for Christmas. There were fresh bows on each pew. The large opening at the front of the sanctuary, behind the pulpit, had a garland of evergreen almost up to the 25 foot ceiling. A large bow was placed over in the center of the arch. Poinsettias were all around the church and candles in every window along with greenery. It was glorious. We turned down the lights and sang “Silent Night,” as we held candles and basked in the glory of what love the Father has for us in sending His son Jesus. Right in the middle of “Silent Night” it happened. A cheap candle in the window, with a wick close to the outside, burned quickly spilling wax onto the greenery. We had a fire! For a moment, we panicked, but quickly got things under control without damage to people or to the building in any way. The place where we worship is a place of memories. We remember how God has touched our lives. Many things we commemorate and celebrate, we do in the sanctuary. And in the sanctuary, we remember how God has blessed us with His presence, for surely He is Emmanuel, God with us! Prayer: With joy, O Lord, with fantastic joy, we enter into Your house, and celebrate Your best gift to us, Jesus Christ. Amen! Copyright © 2013 by the Rev. Denzel Nonhof of Sturgis, SD 57785.
