Devotion ~ THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT – SATURDAY Psalm 90 (Bolded ~ Isaiah 10:20-27) Jude 17-25 Luke 3:1-9 Hymn: “O Little town of Bethlehem” #180 O holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend on us, we pray. Cast out our sin, and enter in; Be born in us today. We hear the Christmas Angels The great glad tiding tell. O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord, Emmanuel. https://youtube/watch?v=E3GqXdarBPo Thoughts: Cannot good spread even more quickly than evil? Cannot new creation come more quickly than destruction? A few years ago nobody knew of HIV and AIDS. Now it is world wide. Some have traced it back to one man who had visited Africa and brought it back to the United States, probably to New York. From there it spread quickly across the nation and throughout the world. It has almost totally devastated parts of Africa. A year or so ago, a horrible lung disease struck residents of China. Scientists discovered that humans could not infect humans, but certain chickens which had the disease could infect humans. Huge numbers of chickens were destroyed and there has not been an outbreak of this disease since. Evil destroys what God created. What God designed, evil has tried to redesign and recreate for other purposes. God promised that a remnant would return and God would be faithful. A remnant infers that many would be lost. Through the faithful remnant came Emmanuel, to be God with us, for all eternity. Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have always kept some who were faithful to You, and have worked out your plan of salvation and hope for the world through them. Use us, O Lord, to fulfill Your plan. Make our task known to us in Jesus Christ. Amen. Copyright © 2013 by the Rev. Denzel Nonhof of Sturgis, SD 57785.
