Devotion ~ THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT – SUNDAY Psalm 24 Isaiah 13:1-13 (Bold ~ Hebrews 12:18-29) John 3:22-30 Hymn: “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks” #228 While shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around, And glory shown around. “Fear not,” said he, for mighty dread Had seized their troubled mind. “Glad tiding of great joy I bring To you and all mankind. To you and all mankind. https://youtube/watch?v=H78cavrhK5E Thoughts: We used to get the jitters every time our parents would come to visit. We would vacuum and dust, make sure the dirty dishes were all washed and the kitchen presentable. We wanted things to be right. Living away from our parents meant that when we were together, we wanted to make a good impression. Their approval was important! It is a fearful thing to stand in the presence of the living God. I don’t know if the fear is because of terror, or if it is because we do not wish to disappoint the one who loves us with an everlasting love. It is amazing that God would announce the birth of His Son to shepherds, who were the outcasts of society, but I am glad He did that. God’s wonderful message of hope is for me, too, even if the house is a mess and the dishes are dirty and my life is a mess, too. Prayer: Lord, Whose love is beyond measure and Whose grace is without comprehension, come into our homes as we prepare for the celebration of Your Son’s birth. Announce the good news in such a way that we will hear it with our hearts, for Jesus’ sake. Amen. Copyright © 2013 by the Rev. Denzel Nonhof of Sturgis, SD 57785
