Devotional - Friday, 15th November 2013 Generating Hunger ‘Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ-that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective’ Col.3:2 [MSG] No matter how long you have been a Christian for, it is important to know how to generate a hunger for God; How to continually stir yourself up in seeking God. The first way is to set your love on Him. Just choose to set your love on Him [Col.3:2]. The Bible says set, as though it is our choice to do that because in truth you long for who you are in love with. Have you noticed? So how do I become thirsty for God? Set your affection on Him. Another way of setting our affection on Him that will help is give to God. ‘Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be’ Matt.6:21. So it becomes a deliberate act to store up your treasure in the Kingdom. You seek to give to God consistently and sacrificially. And by doing this, making heaven becomes your focus because where your treasure is there your heart will be also. You can give without loving of course but you cannot love without giving. Choose to set your affection on Him and declare it. You may not feel it but just keep saying it ‘I love You, more than anyone. I love You, more than anything. I love You, Lord You mean the world to me’ [song]. Many times if your head goes, your heart will follow eventually. If you have been married for any length of time you will know that it is easy to fall out of love when you are married for more than five years. So how do you solve the problem? You simply say to yourself this is the person I fell in love with and I am going to love this person. And as you move in that direction you will find out that in no time your heart begins to respond and the fire reignites. I read somewhere that the human brain is so powerful, it begins to work form the day you are born and it works twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week without sleeping and continues to work until you fall in love. Then the brain stops working and we start to do crazy things and everyone is wondering why he or she can’t see. You need to use your brain to your advantage especially with God. The Bible says we should look for every opportunity to sing to the Lord. In other words, pour your love on Him. Thought: When was the last time you told God you love Him, not because of what He has done for you but just because He is God. Prayer [song]: I love You, more than anyone. I love You, more than anything. I love You, Lord You mean the world to me. Amen
