Devotional for November 14th God’s call to preach. Today we continue in 1 Corinthians chapter 9. 16 For when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, since I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me. 18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make full use of my rights as a preacher of the gospel. Remember the past two days devotionals. Paul has given the reason for his authority, and that, if he wished, he would be deserving of wages from the Corinthians. Now Paul becomes a little transparent. He makes clear that the Lord has given him the duty of spreading the Gospel of Jesus, and teaching and building up Christians. It is the furtherance of the Gospel that is most important to Paul. He simply says that gaining souls for the Kingdom of God is more important that the rights he might personally exercise. So, what does this mean to you and I? We are given the same charge to spread the Gospel. We may not be a preacher or a teacher, but we have been given the same responsibility. We must tell our friends and acquaintances about the Christ who can take away their sin and has done so much in our lives. I want to stress, this is not just for the person who “works for the church” or the “outgoing person.” This is the duty and call of every Believer. We must reach those around us for Christ. That is the trust that has been committed to us. Why do we find it so difficult to talk to others about Christ? Who can you talk to today about the Lord and their need? Hope you have a great Friday Eve.
