Devotions from Bryan Hutson: A Place of Rest.. This time of year, we will see displays and Nativity scenes everywhere, depicting the baby Jesus lying in the manger. We all know the story, Joseph and Mary were tired, and the baby was coming. The baby was God in flesh, sent to the earth to bring salvation to all man kind. He needed a place. A place of rest. I dont know about you, but I also need a place of rest. I become so tired of life. Life is hard. I feel all alone at times. But, I am not alone. Christ is with me. We need to try to visualize our hearts as a manger. Christ says ‘If we abide in Him, He will abide in us.” Is there a place in your heart for Him? You might say yes. However, is He allowed in EVERY room of your heart? Is there a room that is kept off limits? I have lived in homes where the front sitting room wasnt a sitting room at all. No one was allowed in there except the furniture and the vacuum sweeper marks on the carpet. Are there things in our life that we wont allow Christ into? Our marriage? Our decisions about how to raise our children? Our job? Our finances? He wants to be involved in every aspect of our life. He never sleeps, nor slumbers, but Christ is still looking for a place to abide. He doesnt choose the animals, or anything He created. He chose us! Be encouraged that God Almighty wants YOU. Let Him in. He will clean out all your closets and bring freedom to your home. Sweeping out all the guilt and shame of past mistakes, the cobwebs of doubt, and put it all out on the curb to be taken to the sea of forgetfulness! Never to be remembered again! Let this Babe in the manger, become a REAL, living Savior in your heart. Then and ONLY then, will you find that place of rest in Him. Prayer: “Father, may this Christmas season be the time that I open up my heart more than ever, so that YOU may abide in me.” vbryanhutson2014
