Beginning of Chaturmas - DevShayani Ekadashi is also marked as the beginning of Chaturmas . “Chatur” means four and “Maas” means months. Thus Chaturmas is the period of four holy months. These four months are Ashadh, Shravan, Bhadarva and Aashwin. The significance of Chaturmas is to observe extra penance, engage in extra devotion and control over sense gratification. These auspicious months are full of festivals and celebrations. Parmatam Shree Krushna explained the significance of Shayani Ekadashi to Yudhisthira. The story is about a dedicated King - Mandhata. The pious king’s kingdom had faced drought for three years. In order to please the rain gods he met sage Angira. The Sage advised King to fast on Devshayani Ekadashi with the people of his kingdom. Following the sage’s advice the King along with his people observed fast. And by the blessings of Shri Hari Vishnu, there was a heavy rain. This Rain brought an end to all their miseries. Hence observing fast on Devshayani Ekadashi is considered to provide prosperity and happiness. Agyaras Na Jai Shree Krishna
