Dexter cattle make great house cows. My friend Paula has a breeding herd, visited the girls today, they are so quiet, small and inquisitive. It is lovely to see the calves left with their mother, they are separated at night so you can milk the mother in the morning then she is left with the calf all day. Using this kind method of milking enables you to milk only when you need to and stops stress of both the cow and calf. Usually calves are taken away from their mothers a few days after birth in commercial dairies :-(
