Dez Bryant ventured out to the Cowboys’ first practice of the week on Wednesday, but he did not participate. The Cowboys’ star receiver stayed on the sidelines in a sweatshirt and sneakers while the offense went through its paces during the first 25 minutes of the morning session. The reason for Bryant’s limitation is likely the back soreness that caused him to miss several plays during the Week 2 loss to Kansas City. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said moments before the Cowboys took the field that the issue was minor and that Bryant should be able to work Wednesday. Jason Garrett Press Conference 9/18 “I think it’s sore and we anticipate him doing something,” Garrett said. In the locker room after practice, Bryant told reporters he would be good to go for Sunday’s kickoff against the Rams. ‘I’m a little sore, but you know I’m playing,” he said. The Cowboys were also without defensive end Anthony Spencer, who instead worked in the team weight room as practice got underway. Spencer got into his first game this past weekend after a two-month absence because of knee surgery. Spencer said Monday that it would take him several weeks to return to complete game shape. He said he thought he would practice Wednesday, but it appears his schedule has changed. Linebacker Ernie Sims returned to the practice field Wednesday, however, as he rehabbed the groin injury that held him out last week. The Cowboys’ two new acquisitions, defensive tackle David Carter and practice squad receiver Jamar Newsome, also practiced. Carter will wear No. 92 while Newsome wears No. 85.
