Dia de Conscencia Negra! Dia de Zumbi. November 20 is Black Consciousness Day in Brazil! The Day of Zumbi. This is the only movie that I know of that respectfully shows how our ancestors resisted slavery and even created separate communities when possible. Palmares was one of the longest standing maroon societies to exist in the Americas. It was ruled by a series of leaders but the most honorable, respected and feared was Zumbi who is sung about to this day in most capoeira circles.
