Dickson tasks Muslims on 2015 polls Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has called on Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid el Kabir to pray for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a general election in 2015 that would be acceptable to all stakeholders and strengthen the country’s unity. In a Sallah message through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, in Yenagoa, Dickson charged Muslims to renew their belief in the nation and pray fervently for its unity, peace and stability. He also urged Muslims to pray that Allah would direct the country’s leadership aright, stressing that the nation needs the collective prayers and unity of purpose to not only forge ahead but also continue to occupy the position of giant of Africa in all ramifications. He stressed the need for collaborative efforts in the ongoing fight against terrorism, describing the security situation in some parts of the country as unacceptable. The governor noted that acts of violence, killing and wanton destruction were contrary to the dreams and aspirations of the nation’s founding fathers. He described Islam as a religion of peace and enjoined its adherents to follow the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW), which emphasise tolerance, peace and brotherliness. “Irrespective of our religions and tribes, what should be uppermost in our minds is the unity of Nigeria since we don’t have any other country to call our own”, Dickson said.
