Did You Know…To function normally, your brain needs fat and glucose. It’s what the brain considers fuel? Many of you have heard the story about the man who had Alzheimer and traditional medication was not working, not even to slow the disease, so his wife began giving him coconut oil. The wife is a doctor, Dr. Mary Newport. She knew the traditional medicines were not helping so out of desperation, she decided to try other methods. One of the methods was she started her husband on four teaspoons of coconut oil daily and noticed results right away. He became more mentally agile and was able to read again, have conversations, and even tie his shoes again. Dr. Mary Newport had her husband back. But Dr. Newport knew that one instance of Alzheimer’s being treated was not a cure scientifically, so she decided to quantify her findings with more in-depth research. She applied for funding to further investigate coconut oil in relationship to Alzheimer. . Mary had her husband back. But Mary, being a doctor and knowing that one instance of Alzheimer’s being treated makes not a cure, so she decided to quantify her findings with more in-depth research. Her next step has been to apply for funding for investigating this treatment. After some time, she was given the green light to study 65 individuals with early onset to moderate Alzheimer’s. She’s studying how coconut oil impacts the ability of Alzheimer’s sufferers to continue to function at some higher level. Alzheimer’s has been called type 3 diabetes. To function normally, your brain needs fat and glucose. It’s what the brain considers fuel. Studies have shown that low carb and fat diets, for example, can impact brain function negatively. So this is where coconut oil comes into play. Coconut oil is rich in ketones. Ketones are a molecule that the brain uses for energy when there isn’t enough glucose around. Dr. Newport thinks this is how her husband was helped by coconut oil. His brain was no longer using glucose and fats for food, and in their absence, added ketones filled in some of the blanks for energy.
