Did anyone from the State of Missouri office (currently or formerly) see the Channel 4 report tonight at 6 PM? Several of the state workers are unhappy because they say that the caseworkers there at the Chouteau and Compton office are overworked. Now many of the clients who apply/reapply for food stamps no longer go into the office for a face to face interview but now just do phone interviews primarily. Hollie Roe was interviewed by Channel 4 expressing her frustrations with being overworked and with her concerns that the lack of face to face interviewing may result in more potential fraud committed by clients. See if this story comes on again tonight at 10. I remember before I left the agency in 2010 that my fellow workers told me that the State was slowly eliminating caseworkers in order to go to a more automated, streamlined food stamp processing format that will not require nearly as many caseworkers. Well, that certainly looks like this is playing out now. Yes, this streamlining of caseworkers may save the State money in terms of not paying salaries and benefits to caseworkers. But how is this going to slow down/eliminate fraud? Is this streamlining really the answer?
