Did anyone here in this group travel to Moorpark or Santa Paula to pick apricots and plums? I remember we did as a family...except my dad. He always worked. It was super cheap. In Santa Paula it was Ohare Canyon rd and in Moorpark it was Peach hill road. The farmers would charge you for what you brought out of their orchards and it was a pretty fun time. The fruit was like 15 cents a pound and we would get 30 pounds so my grandmother could make jam. The old car in the photo is the car we would ride over there in. I must have been 5 or 6 I remember I had gotten separated from my family while picking plums in Moorpark and I had a shirt full of plums for my moms box and I was walking and not paying attention and I walked right into a garden spider web that had a big garden spider in it that ended on my chest near my hands. I freaked and ran while trying to swat the spider away with one hand and still hold onto my tee shirt loaded with plums with the other. I ended up running into a large wooden ladder used to pick fruit and gave myself very large goose egg on my forehead. Did anyone ever do that? Peach hill is full of housing tracts now, since the 70s.
