Did outdoor chores in the wind this morning. Kinda love that actually, since it wasnt raining. Got Allie and Smooshface the outdoor bunnies moved back into the kennel part of the barn. Poor things have been living in a large dog crate in the barn since the roof blew off their enclosure and since we havent been able to replace it yet they get to move back into the kennel. This gives them plenty of space and fresh air, I just really want them to be on natural ground and not a wood floor but hey, it is what it is. And Lemon our white cochin hen thinks shes going to hatch a plastic egg. Poor thing has lost weight because she wont leave her precious egg. So today I set up food and water next to her nest. Ill give her a little while to figure it out and if not try to break her broodiness later. She is so cute though, so carefully attentive of her little plastic egg. Our second Rio chick is showing signs of Mareks. She is getting around OK but on her hocks instead of her feet. She can get under the heat lamp and to food and water just fine and has a chipper attitude so were on watch and wait right now. It is frustrating that this chick had the vaccine though but also interesting in that she is full sister to the last chick we lost in the same manner (the one that fell in her water dish and drowned because she couldnt right herself). So, since vaccinating, weve only had two chicks display symptoms and both had the same mom and dad. Curious.
