Did we make an expensive mistake? We always follow cockers - TopicsExpress

Did we make an expensive mistake? We always follow cockers available in Northern California shelters even when we have no room to take them. This little girl has been sitting in a high kill valley shelter for days and nobody came to get her. We were told she had an eye infection but there wasn’t much else in terms of information. Her euthanasia was scheduled for Monday and we had to rescue her or let her go. With only an offer by another organization to transport we could not control ourselves and said NorCal would take her. Stunned is the only way to describe our reaction when she arrived. She is almost blind, virtually deaf, older than expected, and has mammary tumors. Our guess is that she was used to breed litter after litter of puppies then tossed when she was no longer productive – a familiar occurrence that makes us sick every time we see it. Our vet. is treating her ears and eyes but clearly she will need multiple surgeries to make up for the lack of care by her previous owners . If we had known all this we can’t say our decision to take her would have been the same but she is ours now and we are determined to do whatever we can . We have named her Valentina because, if you look closely, you can see a cluster of hearts on her side. She thinks, despite everything, that her life is suddenly pretty good- enjoying dog chews and soft beds. If you can forgive us for making this kind of mistake and want to help please share this post and, if you can, donate for her care. https://paypal/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5R4RD6Y69T3PW
