Did you all forget a birthday Sunday? Modern metal music had a milestone of sorts yesterday. Mastodon’s Leviathan album turned 10. In the summer of ‘09 Metalsucks ranked it as the number one album of the 21st century so far. When it came out in 2004, Decibel magazine gave it a 9/10 (in issue number one no less). It has aged well. It is a timeless masterpiece. It is definitely my favorite album of the last 10 years and one my all-time favorites. Listen to the sound of metal being done right, by four guys who did not care what you thought of them writing and entire album whose lyrics retold the story of Moby Dick.
