Did you ever LOSE or LEAVE BEHIND an important belonging getting off the taxi in KOREA? It is almost impossible to retrieve an item like your iPad, smartphone, wallet, shopping bag, and etc without knowing how to track the taxi driver. Let alone, it is hard to even track anyone without some vital information like a contact number or the license plate number. We are always thinking of ways to help out and make life easier for our fellow expats and foreigners here in South Korea. We came up with a few tracking methods (some of you guys are already perhaps using these methods) and also perhaps a solution to finding your lost item(s). Please read further as this might be helpful to you. We would like to think that this is a good start to recovering your important personal belonging. Again, we just thought we should share this because maybe next time you might be lucky enough to find your lost item(s). :) So, lets get to it: 1. Before you get off the cab/taxi, please take a picture when you get inside the taxi or before you pay for your taxi fare (As shown in our 1st picture). 2. What should we take a picture of? Well, on the DASHBOARD of the PASSENGER’S side and the BACK SEAT of the passenger seat, you should be able to see a taxi registration card: name of the driver, the license plate number, contact number of the individual or his/her affiliated company, and etc. 3. If you only see one of the two mentioned registration card information, just take a picture of what is available (the registration information is usually the same). 4. Once you have a picture of the registration information, you have a better chance to recover any lost item(s) by tracking the designated taxi driver and his vehicle registration information. 5. At this point, your next step will be to call the closest police station that you took the taxi from and/or the contact number, which is usually on the registration card in the picture. 6. One more way to locate/track your taxi driver is if you pay the taxi fare with your CREDIT CARD or DEBIT CARD. Make sure you receive a receipt because this will be the tool to tracking your taxi driver through his credit card machine, which will have the contact number, registrant of the card machine, license plate of the car, and time/date of the paid taxi fare. 7. Usually, if you can track the vehicle (the taxi driver), you have a way better chance to relocate and find your lost item. In some cases, another customer might have recovered your lost item if it is in the back seat. In this case, you better hope that the finder is able to or willing to contact you (If you have a locked password or pattern lock, it will be harder for the finder to track you). We hope that you will never have to take these steps to finding your lost item(s) inside the taxi. However, things can happen and you might find yourself in this predicament. Please make sure not to forget to take a picture of the registration card of the taxi. If you have the option to pay with a credit/debit card, make sure you wait for your receipt. That’s it folks! As Eleanor Roosevelt famously quoted, “You must do the things you think you cannot do.” Perhaps, you can even find the things you thought you would never find again.
