Did you ever ask yourself why the Hebrews worshiped the Golden Calf once Moses left to receive instructions from God on Mt. Sinai? I mean, doesnt it seem a bit ridiculous? But they didnt have smart phones and IPads. Its really not too hard to see the same dynamic right now, in our societies with how even Gods people behave. See, the Golden Calf would have been a symbol of wealth, fertility and power. Heck, if they ever were real poor, they could always melt it down a little at a time to purchase material things. Isnt the Golden Calf truly the god of this world? Dont we think that if we just get enough money, we can partition the unseen God out and live according to our fleshly desires as the Hebrews did, as soon as papa Moses was gone? I think its time for the church to examine their hearts to see if they arent really serving the Golden Calf. According to Scripture, the faith that saves is a faith that provides for the physical needs of the widow and the orphan. I know Christians who spend all their money on themselves, some give a tenth to a pastor who has enough money already and uses the rest to pay for the million dollar a year budget of his churchs earthly palace. This to me is perpetuating the delusion of Western Christianity and has created a spiritual pandemic, much like the Swine Flu. Fat Christians getting fatter, amassing more wealth, buying more expensive toys for themselves and the members of their household, but making no contribution to the Kingdom, outside of paying some hireling preacher to show up and say a few good things then spend the rest of his time in his office, in the palace of a building you are paying for.
