Did you ever think about how lucky you are to be alive? The percentages are in fact pretty miniscule for any of us ever making it into this incarnation. A couple of demographers put together a system for determining how many people have lived on this fine planet. Their best estimate is 108 billion. Sounds like a lot, doesnt it? But it really isnt when you consider the odds. The average male generates between 800 million and a billion sperm per month. Now its true that not all of it makes the trip out into the world, but it stands to reason that an enormous amount of sperm, like in the hundreds of billions, is distributed on a monthly basis. Given that there are only 7 billion of us roaming the earth right now, you gotta figure that we are infinitely lucky to have been provided the opportunity to be alive and observe the world as we know it. The odds are seriously against ever having been born in the first place given that 99.9% of sperm dont make it into the light. And what do we do with this incredibly rare gift? We spend most of our time trying to blow each other to kingdom come. Makes me wonder if mankind is nothing more than an evolutionary mistake.
