Did you ever wonder how those snowmobile trails appear each year just in time for riding fun? Club volunteers spend countless hours in the high hundreds by some, working with landowners, putting up signs, brushing trails and getting grooming equipment ready. Trails are maintained by clubs across Maine with partial funding provided by the a portion of registration fees paid each year for snowmobiles, Clubs supplement this funding with local fundraisers to meet the total cost of keeping the trails in the great condition riders expect. All clubs are volunteer groups and are always looking for new members. Why should you join a club? First, it is a lot of fun interacting with others who share your passion for motorized recreation. Representing the snowmobile sport here in Maine is the MSA , they work with clubs and members to convince our legislators at the local, state and national levels that snowmobilers have or should have equal rights under the law and that our recreational endeavors are compatible with other users. Prospective club members often ask how involved they have to be if they join. The answer is that you can be as involved as you want to be. Some club members may brush trails, run grooming equipment, help with fundraisers or hold leadership positions or provide equipment and supplies for others to do the work . Others just want to be social members who participate in the fun activities. Clubs fully recognize that folks lead busy lives and cant always be as active as they want. As mentioned above just the sheer numbers in the 80,000s, of those involved in club activities statewide is important to our legislators. they listen to numbers, information about obtaining trail maps, from the individual clubs and links to their websites can be found @ mesnow, we encourage you to join one of the approx. 300 clubs and get involved in some fashion as stated above. These clubs maintain about 13,000 miles of trails in Maine. Even if you dont ride a sled, but own a business or just want to get involved, we welcome your assistance. At 25.00 dollars for a family with 3500 dollars of insurance provided or 40.00 for a business, @ Penobscot Snowmobile Club that is advertised to almost 80 thousand registered snowmobile owners ,you cant beat the return on such a small amount of money. Check the website or facebook account for the club nearest you and volunteer to join or help … either financially or with your time. Ps by joining our club you can get huge discounts on heating oil and propane through our club ,anywhere in about a 30 mile radius of Hermon, visit our website @ sledhermon.org or sledhermon/ FB for a pay pal link for your convenience!!
