Did you know? Minimalist drum corps . . . Another corps had a trying time on their way to a national championship site when, in 1978, the Holy Family Defenders from Rockland, MA, were on their way to compete at the DCI Championships in Denver, CO. Their equipment truck lost its transmission near Cincinnati, OH, and, for the three days it was out of commission, the only equipment the corps had to rehearse with to prepare for prelims were drum sticks and mouthpieces. The Defenders wound up taking thirty-third out of 43 Open Class corps. (By Brian Tolzmann, DCW staff)
