Did you know.... My name is Michelle, my husband is the director of fosters, I am his secretary. We have 3 children, 13, 7 and 21 mos. They go to school, piano lessons and football. Our youngest was born with a heart condition. My husband works. I am a preschool teacher, 3 days a week and I watch children in our home on my days off from teaching. All of these things require us to be available throughout the day and night. We attend church, family dinners, football games and eat and sleep. Together, we have fostered over 40 dogs in 2 years and have rehomed, or placed that many more. We currently have 9 puppies, their mom, and our 3 dogs here. All of my regular fosters are full as well. This means I have no where for the next dog to go. I tell you this so you will understand where we are coming from. The entire hsforbc board and volunteer list is in the same boat. Please understand that there are policys and procedures in place with our society and within the state of IN. We rely on foster families who are also in the same boat as me. That means we cant take every feral cat that needs help as we have to consider there are children and other pets involved. Taking in a feral cat is a full time job and requires someone with knowledge. The same consideration goes with a dog. Not everyone wants to foster the stray pit bull that comes in. Finally, you must always contact the county that the animal was found in before bringing an animal into our county. They should have a local society or police station that can help. Animals have been known to travel miles and miles. Removing an animal just because they appear to have been neglected could simply be that they have been traveling and in the elements. If youd like to become a foster for cats or dogs, please call the Humane Society number and we would be glad to help. .
