Did you know.... There are 5 stages of change in a persons healthy and fitness journey? There are! 1. Precontemplation 2. Contemplation 3. Preparation 4. Action 5. Maintenance In STAGE 1, people in this stage usually have no intention of changing. Why? Because they do not exercise and do not intend to start in the next 6 months. In STAGE 2, people dont exercise, but are thinking about becoming more active in the next 6 months. If this is you, seeking information on various program and asking for help on developing long-term adherence will help you move on to the next stages. In STAGE 3, people occasionally exercise but are planning on exercising regularly in the next month. These folks definitely believe in the health benefits of exercise but may have unrealistic expectations for the change they hope to achieve. This oftentimes leads to a high risk of disappointment and early dropout from their programs. If you are in this stage, talk to your health & fitness coach, myself, your personal trainer and see what strategies they can provide you with to get you to where you want to be. In STAGE 4, people are getting active and started to exercise, but have not yet maintained the behavior for 6 months. In this stage, its important to discuss barriers to exercise and to anticipate upcoming disruptions/plateaus with your health & fitness coach, myself, or your personal trainer. In STAGE 5, people have maintained a changed lifestyle and routine for 6 months or more. However, dont let this fool you. Oftentimes folks who are in this stage may be still tempted to return to old habits of less exercise. Create a maintenance check in plan that includes reinforcing pros, discuss progress, and help you change up your workout plan and do this with your health & fitness coach, myself, or your personal trainer.
