Did you know raw milk is likely to reduce asthma and allergy in young children? An opportunity to do a submission on raw milk before 5pm Tues 8 July to the MPI and support raw milk producers in NZ. You can do a quick survey in the link below or write to [email protected] for ideas on a longer submission. As buzzybee writes: · Strong recent scientific evidence suggests raw milk reduces asthma and allergy in young children. · Despite the scaremongering, unpasteurised milk is 50 – 1000 times safer than eating a home cooked chicken! · Raw milk is available commercially in many countries, including California USA, and from 24/7 vending machines in Europe · MPI is seeking to kybosh raw milk in NZ by limiting the farm gate sales to 40L per day (which is completely uneconomic for the farmer to sustain a fair livelihood) https://surveymonkey/s/RawMilkSubmission The ‘Short Submission’ questions ask: “What is your view generally about the following statements?” (rating from: 1 ‘Totally Oppose’ to 6 ‘Fully Support’, or ‘unsure’) 1. Consumers have a right to maintain their access to raw milk 2. Drinking raw milk has health benefits 3. Consuming raw milk can make you sick 4. It’s important that consumers understand the risks of consuming raw milk 5. The level of control around raw milk should be similar to other foods that can potentially contain pathogens and are not cooked, eg, oysters 6. It’s important to protect NZ’s global reputation as a supplier of safe food 7. The laws around the sale of raw milk to consumers are not working well 8. Government should change its policy if raw milk illness outbreaks increase (in frequency and/or severity) More information is here: foodsafety.govt.nz/elibrary/industry/raw-milk-sales-2014/index.htm
