Did you know that Richmond Hill was once home to a minimum security prison? The Langstaff Jail Farm (formerly at Yonge St./Hwy 7 on land owned by the City of Toronto) housed petty criminals and first offenders from 1913-1939. The land was leased by the Province from 1939-1959 and the facility used as a mental institution. The buildings sat vacant from 1959 until they were demolished in 1981 to make way for a hydro corridor.
