Did you know that Ringling Brothers Circus operates a wonderful, multi-million dollar elephant conservation center? They have a sanctuary for retired circus elephants, breeding programs to keep the elephant gene pool from becoming dangerously small (so important as the wild elephant population diminishes), and a research center where they study elephant health and diseases. Some years ago PETA and HSUS tried to make Ringling Brothers appear to be animal abusers by filing a lawsuit alleging that they were cruel to their elephants. Feld Entertainment, the company that owns Ringling Brothers, fought back with a counter suit. They were able to prove that the "witnesses" called by HSUS were paid huge amounts of money for their false testimony. Feld Entertainment won -- as they should have. They make vital contributions to the survival of elephants in our world.
