For many decades now, many different means of communication have been used by people. Today, cellular phones are the most popular items to use for communication. The use of cellular phones is changing the social aspects of many. People write fewer letters, gather less, and are becoming more socially awkward. Employing the Interaction Theory, it is hypothesized in this study that as the use of cellular phones increases, the lack of non-technological social interactions decrease. This paper tests this hypothesis analyzing data collected by using the document analysis technique from scholarly books, journals, and Internet sources. A qualitative methodological approach was employed to analyze the data collected and the results led to the acceptance of the hypothesis. This research paper attempts to understand the reasons behind the growth of mobile phones and the impact of this growth on social interaction. Cell phones have become ubiquitous within our society, and many would now consider them a necessity rather than a convenience. This widespread use of cell phones and other mobile communication devices has brought with it an increasing acceptance of their use in virtually all social situations. It is no longer taboo to be caught with a ringing cell phone at a dinner with family and friends, at a sporting event, or even during a church service. Incoming calls are no longer seen as interruptions of the primary activity taking place, but are instead treated as equally important communications. Proximity is becoming inconsequential in terms of social interaction. This study seeks to determine how mobile technology has changed our culture and identifies the ways in which it has affected the social interaction. Moreover, it is important to know that cell phones have become a part of our everyday life, it connects us to people around the world, it defines and changes our culture in terms of how we communicate with other members of the society, yet as much as there are advantages of the usage of the cell phone there are also ways in which it hinders our social skills, however this issue is controversial, any technological advancement in any society has it pros and cons. With Cell phones and Mobile devices advancements have changed the social practice and the interaction within the societies and also on a personal level with terms.
