Did you know that every year 4000 new immigrants arrive in St. Louis? St. Louis is second in the nation in the ratio of new arrivals to native born citizens. The resources of the city, agency and churches are frequently stretched beyond meaningful assistance to refugees. RTM seeks to fill in the gap. Many immigrants lose their sense of identity as well as their possessions as they flee their country during war, or other unfortunate situations. We meet their immediate needs, by providing clothing, and furniture for an empty apartment. But we also teach them to be creative, and to provide for themselves in a new land. We have partnered with those in the community to offer training for domestic service, and furniture making. In 2014 we will open a charter school for immigrant children, and our next venture is to open a resale, recycle, and craftsman store. Jobs for sales, recycling, and furniture and craft making will be created.
