Did you know that in Los Angeles County alone its estimated that approximately 57,700 people are homeless at any given night. Of that 75% roughly 43,000 have no shelter or place to sleep. These numbers are coming from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority and Los Angeles Almanac. This past Wednesday I was fortunate to be invited by my good friends @eriction34 and @anchary to help with the #Mondaynightmission where five days a week a group of volunteers lead by Mel Tillekeratne prepare and provide humble meals usually consisting of sandwiches, a fruit and water (all donated by voounteers) to the hundreds if not thousands ok people on the Down Town streets of our prized city of L.A. known as Skid Row. According to Mel The Sole aim of Monday Night Mission is to feed the less fortunate of skid row [our brothers and sisters] eho are turned away from skid-row homeless shelters. This is in our backyard, mentally ill are being dumped there by hospitals, veterans suffering from PTSD are there being neglected, people are suffering from all forms of abuse and rape not to mention the harshness of living on the streets sleeping on the concrete without even a place to go to the bathroom. Mel has taken the initiative along with regular and new volunteers to tirelessly wage the battle to help those in need. He challenges all those to be honest with their frustrations and challenge our representatives to say enough is enough. We need to fix this. If you would like to come out and volunteer, the Monday Night Mission rallies and serves meals a staggering five nights a week Monday - Friday 7:30 - 10 p.m. You can contact me for more information on how to help or check out the Monday Night Mission page on facebook. Its time we get pissed and start bringing awareness to the issue of homelessness. SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
